Tips to Get Your Overheating iPhone Working Again

August 28, 2015 by eff_md

Dealing with a Phone That Has Overheated

Your iPhone is an amazing piece of technology that has revolutionized the way we live our day to day lives. But like all pieces of technology, your iPhone has limits to the conditions in which it will function. One of the most crucial limits is that of temperature and when your iPhone becomes too hot it will produce a temperature warning screen. When this occurs all functionality (except for emergency calls) is suspended.

Tip 1: Don’t Panic!

Relax, this is not a death sentence for your iPhone. In order to function properly, your iPhone has to remain between the temperatures of 32 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. In order to preserve the internal components of the device, your phone takes it upon itself to suspend activity as to not draw heat from the processor, which brings us to our next point:

Tip 2: Close your Apps!

Just like any other computer, running multiple programs puts a strain on the processor. The more the processor runs, the more heat is produced. Some of the biggest strains on the processor are the location services for your GPS, Bluetooth as well as many different games that run on iOS. Turn these off in the hot weather to try to prevent your iPhone from overheating in the first place.

Tip 3: Keep it Cool!

“Location, location, location” is often a real estate adage but it applies here too. Leaving your iPhone in the car on a hot day or in direct sunlight can lead to your device reaching the extremes of its temperature range in no time. Try to keep your iPhone in a cool, shady area or in an insulated bag when you’re out and about this summer.

In almost all cases your iPhone should return to its normal working temperature and functionality should return once this happens. However, if you are experiencing overheating problems often or if your phone continues to stay overheated for long periods of time you might want to look into finding help. The professionals at iKURE can assess if your iPhone has a defect which is causing it to remain at high temperatures for longer than it is supposed to and will target and fix the source(s) of the issue at hand. Call us at any of our three locations and we’ll be happy to help you in any way we can!
